On a list of the top luxury hotel brands you might expect to see the famous names of Park Hyatt, Banyan Tree, Mandarin Oriental, St Regis, Four Seasons and (widely acclaimed as the most luxurious in the world) Aman. But recent years have also seen other luxury brands setting up on the hoteliers’ wealthy patch of real estate. Think Bulgari in London – and then think all over again with the launch of French luxury crystal brand Baccarat’s recently opened hotel in Midtown, New York. Even before it had offered turndown to a single guest it became the most highly valued hotel in the US when a Chinese insurer agreed to buy it for more than $230 million.
Of course, if you’re a maker of crystal, you’re going to fill your hotel with sparkly glass. Add a palette of silver and richly polished surfaces and all that wealth can happily reflect upon itself.
